About NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, launched in 1969 — the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi. Its primary aim is to involve youth in voluntary community service, thereby fostering their personality development and instilling a sense of social responsibility.

The guiding motto of NSS is "Not Me, But You", emphasizing the importance of selfless service, social responsibility, and community engagement.

Objectives of NSS

The main objectives of NSS are:

NSS in Our College

The NSS Unit at Datta Meghe College of Engineering was established in 2018 with an initial strength of 50 student volunteers. Over the years, the unit has grown to include 100 committed volunteers actively engaged in a wide range of community service initiatives. Our unit has earned a reputation for excellence and has been honored with multiple recognitions, including the prestigious

Best NSS Unit Award by the University of Mumbai. Through its impactful work and outreach, the NSS unit continues to inspire students to take part in nation-building activities and social service.

NSS Residential Camp

Every year, our NSS unit organizes a 7-day residential camp in a tribal village, where volunteers engage directly with the local community to understand their challenges and provide support. The camp focuses particularly on issues related to education, health awareness, and access to government welfare schemes. Through door-to-door surveys, awareness drives, and interactive sessions, the volunteers strive to bridge gaps and bring positive change. These camps offer invaluable real-life learning experiences and instill in students a deep sense of empathy, responsibility, and social commitment.
